Last week we were extremely busy with lots of independent writing, using technology in different ways, developing our hockey skills and learning about pattern

When we come back to school after half-term we will start our Animals topic which begins with…dinosaurs! Dinosaurs are one of my favourite topics so I am very excited…I hope you are too!

What do you already know about dinosaurs? What more can you find out

Please remember to bring PE shoes (plimsoles or trainers) for PE on Monday

I hope you have a wonderful half-term full of exploring, reading, writing, sleeping, eating, singing, dancing, playing, talking, homework, Mathletics and of course don’t forget to comment on the blog!

It will be Green Team‘s turn for Show and Tell on Tuesday. Please only bring in toys when it is your colour team’s turn for Show and Tell as they can easily get lost 😦

Please wear your PE kit on Monday and make sure all your belongings (school uniform, PE kit, book bag etc.) have your name in/on them.

Have a lovely half-term 🙂

This week we have been learning about pirates and doing lots of pirate writing! Our focus book is Pirates Love Underpants which is very funny.

Can you tell your adult what happened in the story?

Which part did you like best?

If you were a pirate what kind of treasure would you like to find?

In maths we have continued to learn about money. Ask your adult if you can look at some of their coins – which ones do you recognise?

How many 1ps do you need to make 3p?

What are two different ways to make 5p?

How could you make 12p? What about 15p?

Thank you to all the adults who were able to come and enjoy World Book Day  with us. We had a great time with lots of stories shared and super costumes. Remember to keep sharing books everyday 🙂

I hope you have enjoyed a wonderful weekend full of exploring, reading, writing, sleeping, eating, singing, dancing, playing, talking, homework, Mathletics and of course don’t forget to comment on the blog!

It will be Yellow Team‘s turn for Show and Tell on Tuesday. Please only bring in toys when it is your colour team’s turn for Show and Tell as they can easily get lost 😦

Homework is due in on Mondays

Please wear your PE kit on Monday and make sure all your belongings (school uniform, PE kit, book bag etc.) have your name in/on them.

I look forward to seeing you again tomorrow! 🙂

Starting our journey…

Greetings Platypuses!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

It has been so lovely to be back with all of you and exciting to start our new topicJourneys! Talk to your adult about some of the journeys you have been on; what different describing words can you use to describe your journey?

Was your journey long? Short? Of medium length?

How did you travel?

Did you enjoy the way you traveled? (on foot/bus/train/car/aeroplane/bicycle/scooter etc.)

What are the most environmentally friendly ways to travel

Can you describe some of the things you saw on your journey

In maths this week we have started to learn about money which is quite a challenging maths topic. If you have the opportunity to go shopping with your adults, especially for smaller items like fruit and vegetables, ask them about how much these things cost and talk about the coins you would use to pay for them.

You could also set up your very own shop at home and ask your family to come to your shop where you price the items as amounts such as 1p, 2p, 3p, 5p, 10, 12p, 15p and 20p. Happy shopping 🙂

Next week we start the Pirates part of our Journeys topic which I know we are all very excited about!

Here is our pirates playlist:

What do you already know about pirates

Have a wonderful weekend full of exploring, reading, writing, sleeping, eating, singing, dancing, playing, talking, homework, Mathletics and of course don’t forget to comment on the blog!

It will be Red Team‘s turn for Show and Tell on Tuesday. Please only bring in toys when it is your colour team’s turn for Show and Tell as they can easily get lost 😦

We are still having too many toys brought to school and I will be confiscating them and only handing back to adults at the end of the day. Tennis balls are allowed for break times.

Homework is due in on Mondays. Every two weeks the maths homework will be set via Mathletics (not in the blue folders) so make sure to check it this week!

Please wear your PE kit on Monday and make sure all your belongings (school uniform, PE kit, book bag etc.) have your name in/on them.

On Thursday it is World Book Day. Children are encouraged to come in dressed as their favourite book characters and it would be lovely if adults could join us for story sharing time at the beginning of the day (9-9.30).

I look forward to seeing you again on Monday! 🙂

The Magic Paintbrush and E-safety

Greetings Platypuses,

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

We have heard two different versions of The Magic Paintbrush. One was read to you and one we watched – which one did you prefer (like more) and why? Can you remember some of the differences (some things that were different/not the same) and some of the similarities (things that were the same/very alike)?

An important focus for us this week has been e-safety as it was Safer Internet Day on Tuesday. E-safety is all about staying safe on the internet. Talk to your adult about what you learnt this week and remember to always ask them if you aren’t sure about something.

In maths we have been learning all about shapes, especially 3D shapes.

Can you identify some 3D shapes around you right now? (a box is a cuboid, a can/tin is a cylinder, a ball is a sphere etc.)

We have also been learning about Chinese New Year and had such fun making Chinese lanterns! We learnt about the Zodiac story and saw how people celebrate Chinese New Year. On the playlist below you will be able to learn some more about the celebrations and also watch some Chinese New Year folk tales.

It will be Green Team‘s turn for Show and Tell on Tuesday. Please only bring in toys when it is your colour team’s turn for Show and Tell as they can easily get lost 😦

Homework is due in on Mondays

Please wear your PE kit on Monday and make sure all your belongings (school uniform, PE kit, book bag etc.) have your name in/on them.

I hope you enjoy a wonderful weekend full of exploring, reading, writing, sleeping, eating, singing, dancing, homework, talking and of course don’t forget to comment on the blog! Oooh do some mathletics too!

When Goldilocks went to the house of the bears…

Greetings Platypuses!

This week we have been focusing on the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

The playlist above has several different versions of the story of Goldilocks, which one do you like best?

Why?

Are there any differences between them?

What can we learn from this Traditional Tale?

Can you think of another Traditional Tale we could learn something from?

Well done for another super week of learning and an overall much Greener week as well; let’s aim for even more Green-ness next week!

In maths this week we have been learning about ordering by size

Can you order 3 objects in your home from biggest to smallest?

Now what about 5?

What mathematical language will you use to to describe their different sizes?

Next week we will be learning about Chinese New Year as it is on Tuesday. It will be the Year of the Pig! Our book for next week is The Magic Paintbrush, we have already watched one version of it and next week will read a different version of it.

Can you explain what a ‘version‘ or ‘different version‘ of a story is?

If you’d like to learn about Chinese New Year before next week then check out the playlist below 🙂

I hope you enjoy a wonderful weekend full of exploring, reading, writing, sleeping, eating, singing, dancing, homework, talking and of course don’t forget to comment on the blog! Oooh and try out mathletics too!

Who is afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?

Greetings Platypuses,

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

This week began with with a growl when the Big Bad Wolf visited the class! Thankfully nobody was gobbled up (even though he said we looked delicious – yikes!) and then he ran off so he wouldn’t be captured because he didn’t want anything like burning his bottom in a pot of boiling water to happen to him again!

Can you retell the story of The Three Little Pigs?

Which house was built first? Next? Last?

Why couldn’t the Big Bad Wolf blow the brick house down?

If you were writing your own story about the Big Bad Wolf or the Three Little Pigs what would happen in it? What would you change from the version of the story we know?

In maths we have been learning to take away (subtract). Can you complete the number sentences below?

2 – 1 =

4 – 1 =

6 – 2 =

10 – 3 =

We were very lucky to have a visit from author and illustrator Petr Horacek on Friday. We had a wonderful time watching him draw some of his characters and tell us about his stories and his writing. here are some more of his stories to enjoy:

It will be Red Team‘s turn for Show and Tell on Tuesday. Please only bring in toys when it is your colour team’s turn for Show and Tell as they can easily get lost 😦 If you are in Blue Team and didn’t get a chance to do Show and Tell last week then you will have your turn this week too.

Homework is due in on Mondays

Please wear your PE kit on Monday and make sure all your belongings (school uniform, PE kit, book bag etc.) have your name in/on them.

Thank you so much to all the adults who joined us for our Rights Respecting Open Morning on Wednesday, we hope you enjoyed yourselves 🙂

I hope you have enjoyed a wonderful weekend full of exploring, reading, writing, sleeping, eating, singing, dancing, homework, talking and of course don’t forget to comment on the blog!

A visit from a giant!

Greetings Platypuses!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

This week began in a very exciting manner – we came in to find lots of chairs knocked over and flour all over the floor; a giant had been in our classroom! He left us a note saying we had to grow beanstalks for him or else he would grind our bones to make his bread!

So we have been very busy this week planting beans and writing instructions for how to plant them. Hopefully next week they will have grown a little bit 🙂

What does a plant need to grow? Listen to the songs below if you need a reminder.

Can you retell the story of Jack and the Beanstalk to your adult?

What were the 3 things Jack took from the giant?

We had a great Big Talk session where we discussed different reasons why you could say Jack was a bad person and different reasons why you could say Jack was a good person. In the end most people thought Jack was a bit in-between – he had done both good and bad things.

What do you think?

Can you give two reasons why you think this?

In maths we have been learning to measure things. If you have a ruler or blocks at home challenge yourself to measure 3 things. Which is the tallest? Which is the shortest? Which is medium sized? Can you put them in order

It will be Blue Team‘s turn for Show and Tell on Tuesday. Please only bring in toys when it is your colour team’s turn for Show and Tell as they can easily get lost 😦

Homework is due in on Mondays

Please wear your PE kit on Monday and make sure all your belongings (school uniform, PE kit, book bag etc.) have your name in/on them.

On Wednesday we are having a Rights Respecting Open Morning and it would be wonderful to have lots of Platypus adults there! 9-10am.

Have a wonderful weekend full of exploring, reading, writing, sleeping, eating, singing, dancing, homework, talking and of course don’t forget to comment on the blog!
