Who is afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?

Greetings Platypuses,

This week began with with a growl when the Big Bad Wolf visited the class! Thankfully nobody was gobbled up (even though he said we looked delicious – yikes!) and then he ran off so he wouldn’t be captured because he didn’t want anything like burning his bottom in a pot of boiling water to happen to him again!

Can you retell the story of The Three Little Pigs?

Which house was built first? Next? Last?

Why couldn’t the Big Bad Wolf blow the brick house down?

If you were writing your own story about the Big Bad Wolf or the Three Little Pigs what would happen in it? What would you change from the version of the story we know?

In maths we have been learning to take away (subtract). Can you complete the number sentences below?

2 – 1 =

4 – 1 =

6 – 2 =

10 – 3 =

We were very lucky to have a visit from author and illustrator Petr Horacek on Friday. We had a wonderful time watching him draw some of his characters and tell us about his stories and his writing. here are some more of his stories to enjoy:

It will be Red Team‘s turn for Show and Tell on Tuesday. Please only bring in toys when it is your colour team’s turn for Show and Tell as they can easily get lost 😦 If you are in Blue Team and didn’t get a chance to do Show and Tell last week then you will have your turn this week too.

Homework is due in on Mondays

Please wear your PE kit on Monday and make sure all your belongings (school uniform, PE kit, book bag etc.) have your name in/on them.

Thank you so much to all the adults who joined us for our Rights Respecting Open Morning on Wednesday, we hope you enjoyed yourselves 🙂

I hope you have enjoyed a wonderful weekend full of exploring, reading, writing, sleeping, eating, singing, dancing, homework, talking and of course don’t forget to comment on the blog!

A visit from a giant!

Greetings Platypuses!

This week began in a very exciting manner – we came in to find lots of chairs knocked over and flour all over the floor; a giant had been in our classroom! He left us a note saying we had to grow beanstalks for him or else he would grind our bones to make his bread!

So we have been very busy this week planting beans and writing instructions for how to plant them. Hopefully next week they will have grown a little bit 🙂

What does a plant need to grow? Listen to the songs below if you need a reminder.

Can you retell the story of Jack and the Beanstalk to your adult?

What were the 3 things Jack took from the giant?

We had a great Big Talk session where we discussed different reasons why you could say Jack was a bad person and different reasons why you could say Jack was a good person. In the end most people thought Jack was a bit in-between – he had done both good and bad things.

What do you think?

Can you give two reasons why you think this?

In maths we have been learning to measure things. If you have a ruler or blocks at home challenge yourself to measure 3 things. Which is the tallest? Which is the shortest? Which is medium sized? Can you put them in order

It will be Blue Team‘s turn for Show and Tell on Tuesday. Please only bring in toys when it is your colour team’s turn for Show and Tell as they can easily get lost 😦

Homework is due in on Mondays

Please wear your PE kit on Monday and make sure all your belongings (school uniform, PE kit, book bag etc.) have your name in/on them.

On Wednesday we are having a Rights Respecting Open Morning and it would be wonderful to have lots of Platypus adults there! 9-10am.

Have a wonderful weekend full of exploring, reading, writing, sleeping, eating, singing, dancing, homework, talking and of course don’t forget to comment on the blog!

Big Rain Coming + Anti-bullying Week

Greetings Platypuses,

What an exciting week we had with storms and floods and storm shelters!

What is a flood?

We spent time doing independent writing and challenge writing in our shelter from the rain and wrote instructions on how to get ready for wet weather and how to build a shelter. We also began to learn about the story of Noah – you can watch some different versions of it on the playlist below and sing the great counting song as well.

This week we have been talking about bullying and what to do if someone starts to bully us or someone we know. We decorated outlines of hands and wrote the names of people we would talk to on them.

You have the right to be protected from being hurt or mistreated, in body or mind – Article 19, Rights of a Child.

Watch the videos below and talk about them with your adults and other family members.

In maths we have been learning about capacity. What can you say about the capacity of different containers in your home?

Thank you everyone for your contributions on Monday.

It will be Red Team‘s turn for Show and Tell on Tuesday. Please only bring in toys when it is your colour team’s turn for Show and Tell as they can easily get lost 😦

Please wear your PE kit on Monday and make sure all your belongings (school uniform, PE kit, book bag etc.) have your name in/on them.

Remember homework is due in on Tuesday

Have a wonderful weekend full of exploring, reading, writing, sleeping, eating, singing, dancing, playing, talking and of course don’t forget to comment on the blog!

Learning about our rights…and lots of other things too!

Greetings Platypuses!

This week we have begun to learn about the rights of a child. Herbert Morrison is very proud to be a Gold Award Rights Respecting school and it is very important that you learn about your rights. Children all over the world have the same rights but sadly they are not always respected. We will be learning more about your rights every week.

We have started our phonics learning and have been practising the following letter sounds:

s

a

t

We have also been learning these tricky words:

I

the

Practise these and we will be learning new sounds next week.

Some of you are practising blending and segmenting words, the following video will help you to practise.

Next week we will be learning about our bodies. Which different body parts can you already name? Can you learn some more this weekend?

We are still working on developing our green behaviour in school. Have a listen to these songs which will help you to remember how to make good choices

Last but not least our lovely school nurse came to visit us to talk to us about hand washing and show us how important it is! Can you tell your adults what we did with Miss Alba which was super fun and meant we really had to wash our hands?

I hope you have a wonderful weekend full of exploring, reading, writing, sleeping, eating, singing, dancing and playing! This week make sure you comment on the blog! I wonder who will be first to win a prize for commenting…

It will be Yellow Team‘s turn for Show and Tell on Tuesday. Please bring one toy/picture/item of choice if you would like to.

I look forward to seeing you again on Monday! Please come wearing your PE kit! 🙂

Love,
