This week we have been getting ready for Sports Day, making cards to celebrate our dads or the other significant adults in our lives and learning yet more about dinosaurs!

Exercise is fun and keeps us healthy. There are so many different kinds of exercise that you can do, so if you don’t like one just keep trying others and you’ll find the one for you!

What is your favourite way to exercise

Can you tell your adult all the different ways you know how to stay healthy

Well done to everyone who took part in Sports Day and a big thank you to all the adults who were able to attend 🙂

Next week we will be using a great resource on the Natural History Museum‘s website to see how the different dinosaurs moved and then we will have a go at moving just like them!

If you would like to order a reusable spider bag painted by your child please let me know. We are making them for the Summer Enterprise Fair (Friday 28th June).

I hope you have had a wonderful weekend full of exploring, reading, writing, sleeping, eating, singing, dancing, playing, talking, homework, Mathletics and of course…fun!

It will be Red Team‘s turn for Show and Tell on Tuesday. Please only bring in toys when it is your colour team’s turn for Show and Tell as they can easily get lost 😦

Please wear your PE kit on Monday and make sure all your belongings (school uniform, PE kit, book bag etc.) have your name in/on them.

I look forward to seeing you again tomorrow.

Love,

Avocados!

Greetings Platypuses!

This week you heard the story of Avocado Baby. I love babies and avocados so I really like this story! I’m sorry I couldn’t be there on Monday to read it to you – I was thinking of you the whole time though!

Below you can listen to the story being read aloud and you can also have great fun with the avocado song which I totally forgot to introduce you to but we will do next week! The song teaches you how to make guacamole. Guacamole is a really yummy healthy dip that is easy to make and very tasty with tortilla chips or carrot sticks. Maybe you could ask your adult if you can have a try at making it sometime? (Lidl have very affordable avocados)

Did you like the story? If so, why did you like it? If not why didn’t you like it?

What was your favourite part

Is an avocado a fruit or a vegetable? (a fruit although we usually eat it with other vegetables, a bit like tomatoes which are also a fruit but we eat with vegetables not other fruit)

Can you name 6 other fruits or vegetables that you enjoy eating?

Super challenge: Have you ever tried avocado? If so can you describe what sort of taste it had? Can you compare it to anything else?

I hope you have a wonderful weekend full of exploring, reading, writing, sleeping, eating, singing, dancing and playing! This week make sure you comment on the blog! I wonder who will be first to win a prize for commenting… Batu I owe you  prize from last week 🙂

It will be Blue Team‘s turn for Show and Tell on Tuesday. Please bring one toy/picture/item of choice if you would like to.

On Tuesday we have our Black History Month Open Morning and would love to see as many Platypus adults there as possible 🙂 Today we started to learn about the Windrush and to learn the song Jambo which is in Swahili which is a language spoken in many countries in Africa including Kenya, which is mentioned in the song.

On Thursday school closes at 2pm for Parents Evening. I have 17 slips that have been returned, if you haven’t handed yours in yet please do so ASAP. On Friday school is closed for a teachers INSET day so don’t come in that day!

I look forward to seeing you again on Monday! Please come wearing your PE kit! 🙂

Learning about our rights…and lots of other things too!

Greetings Platypuses!

This week we have begun to learn about the rights of a child. Herbert Morrison is very proud to be a Gold Award Rights Respecting school and it is very important that you learn about your rights. Children all over the world have the same rights but sadly they are not always respected. We will be learning more about your rights every week.

We have started our phonics learning and have been practising the following letter sounds:

s

a

t

We have also been learning these tricky words:

I

the

Practise these and we will be learning new sounds next week.

Some of you are practising blending and segmenting words, the following video will help you to practise.

Next week we will be learning about our bodies. Which different body parts can you already name? Can you learn some more this weekend?

We are still working on developing our green behaviour in school. Have a listen to these songs which will help you to remember how to make good choices

Last but not least our lovely school nurse came to visit us to talk to us about hand washing and show us how important it is! Can you tell your adults what we did with Miss Alba which was super fun and meant we really had to wash our hands?

I hope you have a wonderful weekend full of exploring, reading, writing, sleeping, eating, singing, dancing and playing! This week make sure you comment on the blog! I wonder who will be first to win a prize for commenting…

It will be Yellow Team‘s turn for Show and Tell on Tuesday. Please bring one toy/picture/item of choice if you would like to.

I look forward to seeing you again on Monday! Please come wearing your PE kit! 🙂
